Farren put his weapon away and sighed. “You’re right, kid. This past year has really taken its toll on me. I won’t go so far as to say I’ve lost my way as a Jedi, but I’ve definitely adopted a more rough approach to how I handle things. Maybe I’m more like the Empire than I thought. I’m sorry. Having said that, I’m also trying to show you that the enemy won’t always fight fair. You can trust me to not actually hurt you, but they won’t be so generous. My job now is to teach you how to survive, as well as following the path that makes a Jedi a Jedi; just with a few adjustments for this new time we’re in. The weapons I used against you are ultimately harmless.”
Farren walked over and sat down on an empty ammo crate and stretched his back. “I can’t pretend to be as good of a teacher as my Master was, but I can only do my best. Maybe we should take a break for now?”

After listening to Aayla's little speech Jarren became very defensive. "I'm fine." Jaren grunted. " Farren is right, you need to train for the situations you will most likely find yourself in." He sat in the dirt and hung his head. He continued to flex his poisoned arm, trying to wake the rest of his nerves from their sleep. " It may be easy for you to say ' move on '. The person who raised you wasn't blasted to pieces in front of you! Yes the Jedi way says develop no personal attachment, but that's not exactly the most easy thing to do especially when that person was a second father to me." He snapped. " To say the code is one thing. But you haven't tried living it yet. I'm not a perfect Jedi, hell I'm still technically a padawan, but in this past year I've had to find something to hold onto. A reason to live on, to fight another day. And at this moment in time, yes, it's my vendetta against the Empire. Do I know it's wrong to feel this way, yes! I hate that I can't be as at peace in all things like master Yoda, but like I said, I'm still learning." He said with emotion. As soon as he could feel his whole arm he stood up and said " I need a moment to cool off." He then turned his attention to Aayla "Here kid, just in case he starts to teach you how to use this." He unclipped one of his sabers from his belt and tossed it to Aayla, and then walked into the mess hall to sit and meditate. " Who does she think she is lecturing me on how to be a Jedi?! Who here was actually training to be one before the Empire killed us all? Not her!". He sighed " Master, I wish you were here to guide me, I'm struggling with my emotions." His mind was racing thinking about everything he had done in the past few moments. " I am so sorry master. That was a horrible display of anger. Not the kind of Jedi you taught me and raised me to be. I will be better."

Aayla caught the saber, but rolled her eyes. She shouldn’t have had to remind these men how to act. She knew life was hard. The only friends she knew had turned on her - they currently wanted her dead. She fought the Battle of Ryloth - and lost family and friends. She knew what it was like to be hunted, to be in danger, and to have people hate you for no reason. Did she let it get to her? Let it affect her actions? No. Her goals were more important to her than her personal need for vengence. Her hatred went beyond that.
“Maybe I’ve just been through so much in so little time that I’m just too desensitized to the horror of it all,” she said, her voice level and emotionless. “I’ve lost people... all I’ve ever known is war. I’m just sick of watching it win... You are a victim, even if you don’t die.” She looked at Farren. “I just want to learn something to give me enough power to make them feel what I have felt. But if I don’t understand the basics, how will I ever use it properly? You understand what I’m trying to say, don’t you?”

Farren looked at her solemnly. “Of course I understand. Jaren and I are the same way. The Jedi may have been peacekeepers in our time, but the last three years have been nothing but war for us as well. And I can’t speak for Jaren, but even with my master before war time, I experienced my share of conflict and turmoil in what should have been peaceful situations. You may have had your friends turn on you, but I had to kill my friends with my own hands to survive. And even then, it was close.” Farren held up his right hand, and pulled back his glove, revealing the blaster scar from that day. He replaced his glove and spoke again. “I will do my best to teach you what I can to give you the tools you need. But you have to understand. I may no longer be a student, but I was never a teacher. I’m going to make mistakes. If you can bear with me through it all, I promise that you will grow to be a better Jedi that I ever was. Do we have a deal?”

Jaren sat in the cafeteria, thinking to himself. " It'd be much easier to just go back out and apologize for lashing out. And here I am moping about like a spoiled child." He got up and walked to his obliterated Aethersprite, looking it over and chuckled to himself " You survived so many encounters in the clone wars, only to be shot to pieces by the clones you helped keep alive." Jaren opened the cockpit and grabbed a comlink from inside along with a small holopad which he tucked into his belt. " A3 this is J2, come in." he said into the comlink. There was silence on the other end, "A3 this is J2 come in."...... " J2 this is A3, is everything okay" " everything is fine, I'm just checking in." " I'm okay over here, where did you go? " " I'm safe, I found the 'friends' I told you about " " Really!! Where are you?! " " I can't tell you now, just know that I'm okay. " " Okay, come back soon, bring your 'friends' too " " Will do, J2 over and out. "
Jaren then put the comlink away in his belt and walked back to where Aayla and Farren were talking, and said " I'm sorry. Aayla you're right, I should set aside my personal vendetta against the Empire. You are right. And I'm sorry. Just know that I'm also fighting not only for myself, but for someone else as well. Jedi are peace keepers and guardians when the need arises. And that's what I'm trying to do. Now if it's okay with both of you, I'd like to continue training with you."

She mustered what she could of a genuine smile for Farren and nodded. “Yeah, I can try. Patience is something I’m working on. And I say that I’m better than most with it,” she murmured, kicking a rock into the darkness.
When she heard footsteps approaching, she tensed a little but said nothing, turning to face him. She nodded, opting not to say anything. It could be embarassing enough to lose one’s temper - but it’s more humbling to apologize without being asked to.... ”And I know I’m right, you don’t have to tell me,” she thought, turning on the saber and twirling it in her hand, not unlike a baton. “Master?” She asked, indifferent to which one answered. With both of them knowing more than she did, she didn’t know who to call Master anyway.

Farren nodded again, with a half grin on his face. He turned and saw Jaren return and listened to him speak. “Welcome back. I wasn’t sure if you’d be returning. The more the merrier, I say. None of look like we can survive on our own.” He watched as Aayla turned on Jaren’s weapon and spun it in her hands. He was impressed that she was able to do so without injuring herself. That was an excellent sign. He actually perked up when he heard her call out for her master, and responded quickly. “Yes, Padawan? I guess that’s us now.”

Jaren came back to the group and sat a distance away from Aayla in case she slipped up with his saber. " Just letting you know that the other button will spark the stun setting, just make sure that the saber part is off before you do so. Take it from me, it will not end well." He spoke from experience. Jaren said "I really am sorry for my behavior, but I am ready and willing to learn what you can teach me, and share a bit of what I know."

Aayla smiled just slightly, looking to Farren before asking “So - what are we trainging for? I mean - do we have an actual mission?”
She continued to spin it aroud her hand, making the speed faster until she caught the hilt in her hand, holding it horizontally across her body. She traced her eyes across the surface, looking for the button Jaren had warned her about... until her finger grazed it first. The sound that came out of her was somewhere between a yip and a gasp - either way, she instantly fell to the ground. The saber, still on, fell precariously close to her face.

Farren let out a heavy sigh as he walked over to help Aayla to her feet. Using one hand to help her up, he used the other to deactivate the saber and return it to Jaren using the Force. “You should really be more careful, young one. Shake it off.” He said as he helped her up. “To answer your question - no, we don’t have a primary mission. My mission this past year has always been the same: survive, and cause the Empire as much hell as I can manage.”
He paused to help Aayla sit on a crate nearby, then continued. “Along the way, I’ve met some, I don’t want to say friends, but like minded people across the galaxy who occasionally help me with that goal. Matter of fact, I think it’s about time to go see one of them now and get off this dull planet for a while. What do you say? Who’s up for a trip to the Outer Rim?” He actually sounded excited at the prospect of going on a journey with his new companions.

He grabbed his saber and quickly clipped it on to his belt. " Yeah I remember the first time I did that, but haven't done it since then." He listened to Farren and responded, "Well my ship isn't going anywhere anytime soon, and seeing as this 'young one' needs as much help as she could get.... Count me the hell in!" He said, excited to finally have companions whom he doesn't have to worry about tipping off the empire about what he is. " Aayla if you want to continue training with the saber I don't mind being down one saber, haven't really needed two since I got into a fight with a few pirates on Tatooine." He said to her, with the other saber in his hand.

Aayla sat and panted for a few seconds, holding her arm in an attempt to keep it from twitching. She looked up and smiled a little at Jaren, his comment making her feel a little better until - “Hey - I’m not totally helpless! I’ve... well, I held one before in a training class. But I was never told how they work, and the one I held was desperately broken.” She looked at the saber offered as if she was a little afraid, but held out her hand for it. “Does...does this one also have a stun gun in it? What is the function of that, anti-theft?” She turned it carefully over in her hand, spotting the button before tearing off a piece of her remaining armor and tying it lightly over it. She smirked to herself about her intuitive solution.
“I’d like to go. Anywhere a tazer isn’t - I’ll go. Who’s out there?” She slowly got to her feet, shoving the saber into her pocket so she could keep her arm from twitching again.

Farren straighted his robe as the two Padawans spoke. He could tell that even after a day together, they would all get along, at least to a workable degree. That was more than he had had for a long time.
“His name is Asto Marr, and he runs a small inn out on Otani. He owes me a favor anyway, after I helped get him out of some low level Imperial trouble. I have a proper ship that get us there without having to cram into that tiny Starhopper. We can leave whenever we want. I don’t exactly make reservations when I go.”
Farren looked between his companions and reached out with the Force. He could feel Jaren’s readiness to get moving, perhaps to simply stay active, perhaps to see some action. Aayla, on the other hand, he felt worry and nerves. She was a competent fighter, but she hadn’t been in a situation like this before on her own. It was showing.

Jaren replied, " It's more of an alternative to revealing what I am. It's also hard to not kill people with a lightsaber, so I figure add that little taser." to Aayla. When Farren mentioned where they were going and how they were getting there he jested " Sounds like a plan. Although I'm sure it'd be fun to try to fit in that little ship, it's probably a good idea to get a more formidable vessel." Jaren started to head over to the main building and asked Farren " So where exactly is the armory? While I prefer to use a saber, a blaster would kinda help keep the Empire off our backs for our earlier excursion."

Aayla chuckled a little, still rubbing her tingling arm. “Master said we were going to Otani. That’s where the armory is,” she smirked as she walked towards the hangar. She sighed a little, shaking off her nerves as she waited for the two men to catch up. She wanted to throw her past off and be completely in the present - but she couldn’t shake the fear. Everything made her jump. Yet - she found comfort in her new comrades.
Her train of thought came to a sudden halt. “Jaren - what do you mean? An alternative to revealing what you are? To use it, the saber is still in your hand - anyone looking would know what it is.”
