*Continued from Blades Crossing*
It was around midday when Farren finished setting up his little arena in what used to be the outdoor landing field, not that one would be able to tell, given Umbara's natural darkness. He could hear the banshees screeching, and the hissing of nearby vixus nests, but they tended to stay away from the base. Every so often, a brave banshee would stray too close, only to meet the business end of Farren's saber. The set up that Farren wanted Aayla to work with was a simple one, given the situation. Leftover Umbaran and Clone helmets were mounted on sticks and crates at varying distances and heights, repurposed B1 battle droids were standing in a resting position, waiting for instructions. Farren had also rigged a salvaged R3-series astromech with a dart gun of sorts for a little fun later. When he was satisfied with his work, he walked over the an intercom on the exterior wall and flipped the receiver. A burst of static echoed throughout the entire base, followed by his voice. "Rise and shine, everyone! Meet me topside to begin the day!!"

Jaren jolted awake to Farren's voice over the intercom. It had been a long time since he had slept in a real bed, that coupled with the bit of excitement he had the day before caused him to sleep into the middle of the day. He rubbed the leftover haze of sleep from his eyes, dangling his feet over the edge of his bunk. He jumped down from his bunk and grabbed his sabers.
He then knelt down and started a morning meditation, a practice he had taken up after the purge. His sabers started to float in front and around him, disassembling around his head revealing the two orange crystals. In his mind he reminiced about his time in the Jedi Temple on Coruscant. He remembered the friends he had, Jedi and clones alike. He thought of his master, and the instruction he had received from him.
He then reassembled the two sabers and rested them at his knees, ending his meditation. He opened his eyes and clipped his hilts to his belt and went up to meet Farren, and see what he had planned for Aayla.

A high pitched shriek echoed from Aayla’s end of the hallway. She had been awake for a long time - sleeping on and off for 20 minutes at a time. She was just too accustomed to the silence to have been prepared for the noise.
She groaned and sat up, assessing her leg. ”Much better... but still the slightest bit sore,” she thought, standing slowly to stretch and make her way down the hall. She was excited to start the day; nerves shot through her body as she flexed her fingers, walking up to where Farren and Jaren were standing.
“Okay... What now? What’s..all this?”

Farren was sitting on a collapsed pit droid, and stood up when he saw his would be students approaching. He stood up and clapped his hands, and smiled. He was wearing a mix of cloth clothes and a mix of clone and Umbaran armor pieces across his forearms, shins, elbows, and shoulder pads; the left shoulder sporting the Republic crest, and the right shin sporting the Confederate symbol. Not a typical combination, but since neither organization exists, there was no reason not to hold on to the items. His lightsaber was hanging from his right hip in plain view. On his left hip, he had a holstered DC-17 pistol.
He opened his arms at the pair walking towards him and gestured to the set up around him. “Welcome to my little workshop. Aayla, this is where you show me what you can do. These droids are going to try and grab you. Stop them. Jaren, feel free to join in, or just sit back and watch the show. I would expect that this kind of thing is child’s play for you since you received proper training” Farren pressed a button on the clone armor gauntlet on his wrist, and the B1’s whirred to life. They extended their arms and walked slowly over in Aayla’s direction; not as fast as they could, but not a staggered pace, either.

Jaren looked at Farren's test arena he had set up for Aayla and laughed, " It might be a little easy for me, but I won't mind seeing how your youngling handles it." Jaren sat down where he was, and readied to watch the spectacle. He plans on just watching, but he could be urged to participate given the right circumstances.

Aayla smirked. “As if this wasn’t child’s play for me either,” she thought. She instantly drew her pistol but stopped after nailing a head shot on the first droid - switching tactics to test what they were there for that morning.
She leapt backwards a few paces, putting a little more distance between her and the droids before stretching out her hand and attempting to focus. One of the droids - not the closest to her, but close enough - began to shake. It stopped in its tracks momentarily, seeming to be idling. Within a few moments, it snapped out of it, and starting walking again.
“Shit,” she hissed, blasting another droid that got too close. Her stress was written all over her face, but so was her thoughtfulness. She holstered the pistol again, pointing the palms of her hands towards the ground, waiting for the droids to get closer...closer...almost too close. And then, she did what got her discovered in the first place.
With a slight grunt of effort, the droids when flying backwards in an arch - and Aayla went flying the opposite direction. Landing on her butt with an ‘oof’, she looked over at the two Jedi watching her. “I don’t have to kill them, right?”

Farren had a deadpan expression as he watched Aayla react to the droids. Her first instinct was to go for her pistol, which he expected given her past battles and training. However, she did seem to have a power to her when she tried to tap into the Force. He folded his hands behind his back when she spoke. “That’s up to you, to be honest. In the heat of the moment, you may have to make the split second decision to kill or maim, if incapacitating isn’t possible or would jeopardize the mission or your safety in some way. With droids, I find that total destruction is the best route for a few reasons. Communications, for one. Safety, another. But what of living beings. What do you do if a flesh and blood person draws their weapon on you?” As soon as he closed his mouth, Farren pulled out his blaster and fired at the spot on the ground between Aayla’s legs, intentionally missing her. He would then holster the blaster, regardless of her reaction.

Jaren sat and watched what was going on before him, and chuckled at the unorthodox approach to the training of Aayla. After watching how Farren was testing how she would react to a living target he spoke up, " In the case of a living being, you need to weigh the pros and cons. Should you choose to take a life, it will stay with you for a long time no matter whether it was justified or not." He was speaking from experience. " And my idea of justice is probably different to your idea of justice, just as yours is probably different from Farren's. " He added. He held one of his sabers in his hand, waiting to see what else Farren had planned for his training.

What should have been a yelp of surprise came out more like a shriek of terror as Aayla tried to defend herself. Vivid memories of yesterday’s close call flashed before her eyes. What ended up happening was an episode similar to before - this time, uncontrolled. Farren and Jaren would find themselves flying backwards and covered in dirt. Aayla, being on the ground already, only found herself pressed into a rather ‘Aayla’ shaped hole in the ground
She growled at the pain shooting across her lower back before looking up at what she had done. Her cheeks dusted a darker shade of blue as she raised herself to her knees. “...Are you two okay?”

Farren was able to hold up his hand to deflect the force wave and send the dirt flying past him, while he himself remained unmoved. He straightened his armor and walked over to where Aayla sat, and held out his hand. “You’re going to have to get over that, young one. In our line of work, getting shot at is routine. But you have a lot of potential. And you’ll need to work on your reflexes as well. Otherwise, this could happen.” After helping Aayla to her feet, Farren pressed another button on his gauntlet. One of his astromech droids that were seemingly just junk silently turned to face Jaren and fired a dart at his left arm. Should it connect, the toxin in the dart would render Jaren’s arm useless for a period of 5 minutes. If Jaren were to react in time, the droid would track him and fire two more darts.

Jaren was flung back a few feet from the shockwave that Aayla had sent out. As he came to a stop, he stood up and dusted himself off. " Well at least we know she's strong with the force." he said as he laughed. He was still walking back to where Farren and Aayla were standing when he felt a sharp sting in his left arm. "What the hell?!" He said through gritted teeth as he looked down and saw a dart sticking out of his left arm. He pulled the dart out and stomped on it when he noticed an astromech in the distance with the muzzle of what he assumed to be the dart launcher. When he saw it he tried to raise his left hand to pull his light saber (which was where he was previously sitting) but he realized that he could no longer move his left arm. " Farren chuba karking schutta! " Jaren yelled in the little Huttese he knew from his time on Tatooine. He then raised his right hand and pulled his saber to himself, ignited it, and hurled it at the mechs head, if it hits it will decapitate the droid, if it misses he will pull his saber back towards himself.

Aayla listened, but took no time in using Farren as a shield in case the darts should turn on her. She gasped but chuckled a little. “Jaren - language~” She pulled the pistol from her holster, taking out the other astromech. Watching her surroundings more intently, she approached the disabled Jedi. “Can’t I ... pull it out of you? We have machines for that, but can the Force separate the poison from you?” She wanted to try... but she also didn’t want to rip all of the blood out of Jaren’s body.

Farren shook Aayla off quickly, and frowned at her. “That’s not how the force works. And using an ally as a shield? That’s not exactly a good start. You did manage to find the other rigged droid, but the case remains you put a friend in harm’s way to save yourself. If this was a test, you’d have failed. And Jaren will be fine. The paralysis is only a few minutes then he’ll be back to normal. Just goes to show, Jaren, that the enemy will not always fight fair and can strike at any time. A lesson you and I know all too well. We must never forget that, lest we be struck down ourselves. We all lost a lot that day.....” Farren’s voice trailed off as he removed his saber from his belt and laid it across his hands, staring at the sharp, jagged new design he had come up with. 6 flat topped spires jutted out of the emitter and would surround the blade, and the 3 spikes angled down from the hilt and served as a type of hand guard were all a far cry from the simple design his original saber had. Not to mention the color....
Farren suddenly wrapped his left hand around the hilt and pointed the saber straight up, igniting it. With a crackling hum, a bright silver blade erupted from the emitter and he stared into it’s light. He could hear his master’s cries as the clones, his former friends, gunned her down and tried to take him out with her. “Much has changed.”

Jaren felt a lump forming in his throat as he listened to Farren's speech. He watched as Farren ignigted his saber, and saw the surrounding area bathed in a bright silver light. " Times have changed. And so should we." He said as he pulled his saber back to himself.
"We can't be as altruistic as we were. If the Empire strikes us, we need to strike back." He said. As he spoke he could still hear the sounds of battle and feel the hatred he felt that night. " We should strive to be a thorn in the Empire's side." He clenched his left fist at his hip.

“Don’t chastise me for using an ally as a shield when you fired on me and poisoned him! This is day one, and my previous training is all about self preservation and that alone,” she hissed, her hands on her hips. She couldn’t believe the hypocrisy - then again, neither of the men before her really acted like Jedi. “Your actions speak louder than your words.”
Shaking her head, she almost laughed. “If you’re expecting me to become a Jedi - you’re off to a poor start - the both of you. And furthermore - how am I supposed to know that’s not how the Force works? I have no experience with it. At all. You want me to learn? You want to teach me the proper way? Then get your head out of the sand, forget your own personal pain, and teach the right way! The Jedi are peace keepers, first and foremost. Yet you both seem keen on your own plans for revenge. I thought nothing could be personal within the Jedi Code.”
She took more of a step toward Jaren, not really trusting anything Farren had to say at the moment. “Are you alright? Really - ignore him. You’re okay?”
