Name: Kanter Brawne
Alias: Darth Novak
Age: 17
Sex: Male
Appearance:
Eye Color: Blue, later amber
Height: 5’11”
Weight: 170 lbs
Species: Quarren
Home Planet: Lothal (originally), Jakku (exile)
Organization*: Sith (Reborn)
Personality: Kanter was actually a remarkably kind and polite individual. He would always do his fair share of work, and did not react harshly to initial failure. However, like most classic Sith, should one fail him repeatedly, or be deemed as no longer useful, he would quickly cut them down and move on. He does not kill everyone he meets, though, so merely having a conversation with him does not necessarily end in death. 80% of people walk away with their lives.
Background: Kanter Brawne was the son of a renowned historian father and financial advisor mother. Born on the world of Lothal, he enjoyed a relatively quiet and privileged life. Despite the success and wealth of his family, Kanter was always taught how to find the value in life and not take things for granted. His parents had to work hard to build names for themselves, and they didn’t want him to become entitled and jaded. All in all, life seemed very peaceful for the first 15 years of his life. The Clone Wars would change all that.
Kanter was out in his yard one day gardening with his mother, when an old support beam holding up the front awning came free and fell, promising to crush the woman. Kanter yelled and threw out his arms, unable to get to her in time. To his, and everyone in the neighborhood’s shock, the awning had frozen in mid-air in line with his hands. He moved his arms slowly to the side and down, and the debris followed him, settling gently to the ground. Everyone cheered, and his mother was so excited. She had long heard rumors of people with special powers, the Jedi, and was thrilled that her son could join their ranks. Upon returning home from work and hearing the story, his father was equally excited. At the outbreak of the war, he had been relocated to Coruscant by order of the Chancellor, in an attempt to preserve and copy any and all art and historic records to protect them from potential Separatist attacks and theft. It was during this time that he unexpectedly gained access to the Jedi Archives, while having a tour led by Master Jocasta Nu. Seeing the articles and legends about the Jedi and their ancient, reborn enemy the Sith, he sent stories back home to his family, so that Kanter could follow in the footsteps of the Jedi on his own. It was an unpleasant day when Master Mundi, upon hearing of the Force-sensitive teen, had to inform the family that he was far too old to begin the training, especially with the war on. However, he had been encouraged to follow Jedi teachings on his own to make the galaxy a better place in his own way. Kanter was saddened by this, but dutifully read and watched all of his father’s communications and holograms on the subject, even studying some basic level training holograms that Master Cin Dralig had deemed safe for public consumption. This gave him the ability to hone his Force and stick fighting skills.
As it turned out, the story of the Jedi was not was most captivated him. These so-called Sith seemed to be the ones that truly deserved the attention and recognition. From his point of view, they were working as hard as his family did to achieve status and power, only for the Jedi to deem their methods too extreme and stand in their way, without giving them a chance to properly demonstrate their “business model.” This didn’t sit right with Kanter, as he had memories as a young boy of people trying to stop his parents from elevating their careers and he found himself angered by that. He wished he could do more. Now, though, now he could do more. Much more. On a dark night, he went across town to the office of a rival banker to his mother. He knew the Muun worked late nights, and found him as expected at his desk. He blew apart the doors with the Force and calmly walked inside. The Muun was alarmed and asked him what he was doing. Without a word, Kanter raised his hand and used the Force to raise the Muun out of his chair by his throat, strangling him. A clench of his fist, and his mother’s enemy was nothing more than a crumpled heap on the floor. He smiled, and returned home to tell his mother the news, only to find her watching a Holo-Net report of the Jedi assassination attempt on newly christened Emperor Palpatine, and their subsequent destruction at the hands of the brave clones. Kanter watched as the footage changed to aerial shots of the Jedi Temple burning, the bodies of clones, Jedi, and civilian workers scattered about. Without a word, Kanter jumped into his family’s HWK-290 freighter and headed straight for Coruscant, never telling his mother what he had done just an hour ago.
His arrival at the Jedi Temple marked his fears as confirmed. He thought he had seen the body of a familiar Quarren male and, after slipping through the still forming security net at the Temple, he found his way to the spot and there he was. Laid out on top of a dead Padawan, as if in a tackle, lay his father, a distinctive lightsaber wound through his back. Kanter dropped to his knees and screamed out, causing the room to shake. Next to his father was his briefcase, no doubt full of his last batch of communications yet to be sent home to his family. The shaking of the room had attracted the attention of a pair of clones on patrol, who surrounded him and asked him to identify himself. With a growl, Kanter summoned the sabers of two slain Jedi nearby and ignited them, quickly cutting down the men in a flurry of blue and green. Kanter retrieved his father’s briefcase and pocketed the stolen sabers, then left the way he came, fleeing the temple and making a random jump through hyperspace, ultimately ending up on the desert world of Jakku. There, with his new weapons and unknown identity, he began to remake himself. Perhaps these Sith were on to something. With no more Jedi, it was perhaps time for them to rise again…..
